A greater understanding of a popular verse:
"Then, faith is by obedience and obedience by the word of God." Literally : the hearing of the ear. Rom 10:17 -Peshitta Aramaic translation.
This connects to: "Without faith (obedience) it is impossible to please God." Heb 11:6
"Show me your faith without works (obedience) and I will show you my faith by my works (obedience)."
"You see that by works (obedience) a man is justified (made righteous) and not by faith alone."
"As the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works (obedience) is dead." James 2
Simply put, hearing requires a response, but just listening. This is obedience.
Faith is displayed by obedience. Read Hebrews 11.
By faith each person listed DID something to activate what they believed.
Hearing doesn't do anything UNTIL it is acted upon. The action that comes from the listening ear is called faith.
