I think that we've been doing it all wrong in the West trying to reach the lost. We have stadium events and preach a Gospel from pulpits so that people will make a "decision" to follow the Messiah.
But that's not what Jesus did and I don't see that model in the book of ACTS. The Gospel message, as is seen in the 4 Gospels and the book of Acts, is a message WITH A DISPLAY of God's kindness and power thru signs, wonders and miracles. The power OFFERS PROOF that the Gospel message is the truth.
Here's the BIBLICAL MODEL:
Matthew 10:7,8: " As you go, proclaim the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, cleanse lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give."
In John 11: Jesus raised Lazarus from the grave after 4 days.
John 12:9 "A huge crowd came, not just because of Jesus" - which the crowd already was following Him when they SAW the miracles He was doing upon the sick (John 6:2) - "but because they could also SEE Lazarus whom He raised from the dead." John 12:11 "Because through him many of the Jewish people were (some versions say "leaving", but they were actually) going back/ returning / repenting and they were believing in Jesus."
John 12:17-19 "THEN the crowd, which was with him when he called Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from the dead, WAS TESTIFYING. Because of this then the crowd WENT TO MEET HIM, because they heard this One himself had done the miracle... Look, the world has gone after Him."
So the Biblical model to reach those for the kingdom is this:
-When you are out and about, DISPLAY THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN with signs, wonders and miracles.
-IT DRAWS PEOPLE when they hear about or see the miraculous breaking through the impossible
-THEN THEY TESTIFY to even more people - and DISCIPLES ARE MADE, (not decisions)
-to then make MORE DISCIPLES.
"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you to be my WITNESSES..." Acts 1:8
The MESSAGE of the Gospel is essential, don't get me wrong. But if the Gospel is ONLY in pursuasive words, where people are passive listeners, we have MINIMIZED what Jesus told us to do. Mt 10:7,8.
DISPLAYING that message by healing the sick, cleansing lepers, raising the dead, and casting out demons AUTHENTICATES this Gospel, which ANY Believer can do.
